Trees and Plants around Punta Leona

A lot of the trees and plants around Punta Leona had signs stating what they were in three languages: Spanish, English and German.

This sign said they planned to plant 70,000 trees in five years.

There were many plants growing on other plants but I liked how the leaves of this one were growing so flat against the tree.

This looked just like a corn cob.

I loved all the vines hanging down from the trees.

An Ice Cold Drink

After a long day on the beach in the blazing sun, an ice cold drink was in order.  Interesting fact: you only have to be 18 to purchase alcohol in Costa Rica.

The bar where we had our drinks in the shade.  Near the pool and very close to the beach.

Tide Pools

There were lots of tide pools in the rocks along the beach and Barb and I spent a lot of time looking in them.  This one had tons of coral.

A piece of coral that was out of the water.

I have no idea what these star-shaped things were but there were a lot of them.

At first, Barb thought this was a worm.  Then, she got down on her hands and knees and got her face really close to it and decided she thought it might be eggs.

I called this thing on the rock a giant roly poly bug (or potato bug).  That's probably not the scientific name though ;)

A hermit crab.

La Playa Blanca (playa = beach)

The view of Playa Blanca from the top of the hill we had to climb over.

Such a pretty beach.

There are quite a few rocks at these two beaches, so you have to be very careful.

The surf was much bigger here.  That dark spot you see is one of the rocks you had to watch out for.

There were very few people at the beach that day so we had it almost all to ourselves.

What a beautiful view from these cliff-top houses.

Some of my classmates playing in the ocean.  Despite the warnings, many of them got hurt.  Lots of bruises, bumps, scrapes,  a sprained ankle, multiple sea urchin wounds, and even one person with a broken rib.

I love watching the surf crash on the rocks.

My classmates.
